Making the rub
This pulled pork seasoning recipe is quite easy to prepare, and it keeps for up to 1 year!
- Measure out the ingredients and add them to a medium bowl.
- Blend with a whisk or fork. The fork is particularly useful for breaking apart clumps formed by brown sugar or dried mustard.
- For a finer consistency, add the pulled pork seasoning ingredients to a food processor and pulse 4-5 times.
- You can use the pulled pork seasoning right away or store it in anย airtight jar or plastic container for future use.
- When stored properly in a cool, dark cupboard, the rub will last for up to one year.

Applying Pulled Pork Seasoning
Binder and Optional Injection: Apply a thin layer of yellow mustard or Worcestershire sauce to the pork shoulder before applying the rub to help keep the seasonings in place. If you’d like to add flavor into the roast, try some of our Best Pork Injection Recipes prior to seasoning.
Use 1 tablespoon of pulled pork rub per pound of meat. So for an 8-pound pork butt, you’ll need 1/2 cup of rub.
Apply the rub by hand, as shown in the video below or pour the rub into a large spice shaker and apply it that way.
Discard any rub that has come into contact with raw meat.
Cook your pork roast as directed and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
