Leon Carter created Bull Outdoor Products, one of the first companies to offer inexpensive outdoor kitchen solutions. Eventually, he sold that company and, after a few years, returned to the industry with Lion Premium Grills. Like Bull, Lion offers a complete line of outdoor cooking products centered around an affordable outdoor kitchen concept.
On paper, this is a great-looking grill. It has 304 stainless steel construction and heavy cast stainless burners, and it comes standard with a full rotisserie system, including a rear-mounted rotisserie burner. It even comes with a heavy stainless steel griddle that can swap out a section of the stainless steel cooking grates. The problem is that this grill appears promising in on paper, but it encounters difficulties in real life.
Heating
The main problem with the Lion L75000 32-inch is that it doesn’t come with flame-tamers. The burners are triangular shaped on the top to allow drippings to drain away from the flame ports, but there is nothing to even out the heat, resulting in uneven heat distribution from front to back. For an additional cost, you can purchase a set of flame-tamers or diffusion plates made of ceramic rods to add to the stainless steel frame. This helps with the left-to-right heating issue but does nothing with the front-to-back. Furthermore, these flame-tamers exacerbate flare-ups by catching and holding drippings.
Packaging and Support
Due to the already crowded market, this product line’s distribution is limited. As a result, consumers end up ordering this grill online. Still, packaging issues mean that these units arrive damaged. In addition to this, some customers have experienced problems with product support, leading to significant delays in resolution.
$1,800 seems like a lot of money, but as a built-in unit, the Lion gas grill is one of the least expensive on the market. In this price range (Built-in Gas Grills under $2,000), numerous alternatives are available from more responsive companies.
