Full Review – Big Green Egg Mini Max Charcoal Grill

Big Green Egg noticed an interesting trend a few years ago. Restaurants were using their smallest charcoal grill to grill steaks. The size was small and only one steak at a time could be cooked but fired up to its highest temperature it had the power of an infrared broiler with authentic charcoal flavor. This got them thinking and they introduced this little grill. It has the cooking grid of the small (not the mini) so the space is larger, but it is still a small, portable, tabletop grill. Yes, it weighs 76 pounds so as a portable it is still a very heavy little grill, but it is the most powerful portable on the market when you consider that it can produce 700 degree F cooking temperatures.

The Big Green Egg Mini Max Charcoal Grill is ideal for the person that wants the perfect steak or only wishes to grill small items. The airflow control is as good as any Kamado Grill, but the size makes smoking limited. Don’t buy this grill if you expect it to do serious barbecue. If, however, you want a lot of power in a very small space, then this is a great choice. I still wouldn’t recommend carting it around, though the two side handles help. If you have a good place to put it and want the power of a little infrared grill with the authentic smoke flavor of charcoal, then this is a great little grill.
