What you’ll need

  • Honey 
  • Red chili flakes (adjust the heat level to suit your tastes)
  • Apple cider vinegar

How to make hot honey

  • Heat honey and red chili flakes in a small saucepan over medium heat for 1-2 minutes. Do not bring it to a boil, or the honey will run the risk of crystallizing.
  • Promptly remove from the heat and stir in the apple cider vinegar.
  • Pour it into a jar (or a bowl if using right away).
  • You can also strain it through a fine mesh strainer to remove the red pepper flakes, for a clear hot honey syrup.

Store it in a tightly sealed lidded jar in your cupboard for up to 6 weeks, then transfer it to your refrigerator. Once refrigerated, it may run the risk of crystallizing. Heat through to re-liquify before using.

  • Fresh chili peppers: Omit dried chili flakes and instead simmer 1 large jalapeno OR 1 small serrano pepper sliced with the honey. Add cider vinegar as instructed. Strain and use as directed, You can also use hot peppers like habanero at your discretion.
