Full Review - Holland Apex Gas Grill

Sadly, Holland Grill filed for bankruptcy and have closed their doors. This is really the end of an era in outdoor cooking. If you can find this grill available, I still recommend buying it. Few people ever had to use their warranties, so you shouldn't have any problems using this grill for years to come.

Thirty years ago the Holland Grill was first introduced as a solution to grills that flared-up and burnt foods. It took more than a decade to perfect the design, but to this day, The Holland Grill stands out as a truly unique grill that can do practically any cooking task.

What makes this grill stand out is that it goes against all conventional wisdom. The burner is a single, cast iron round piece that sits in the bottom of the grill. Between the burner and the food is a solid sheet of heavy steel. The burner heats the cooking chamber, but there is no direct flame hitting the cooking surface. While some would say this isn’t grilling, it ensures that flare-ups are impossible. It also means that this grill can roast, smoke, steam, and bake as well as grill.

Certainly, the grilling temperatures are not impressive. In fact, the burner on this unit is either on or off. There is no adjustment. But because of the sealed cooking chamber, moisture is held inside, food doesn’t burn or dry out. It is practically foolproof and requires little skill to actually master. This is one of the reasons why this grill has such a loyal following.

Another, important, aspect of the Holland Apex, is that it is well built. This model is made with high-grade stainless steel and an enclosed cabinet. Since the burner is isolated from the food, it doesn’t get exposed to anything that might cause corrosion. It not only lasts forever, but it is also warranted for your lifetime as at the unique cooking grates. Built like a tank, there are Holland Grills out there that have been in use since the company first introduced them. If you want a gas grill that is easy to use, extremely versatile, and might just last longer than you do, buy the Holland Apex. It isn’t even that expensive considering what it can do and how long it will last.

On the other hand, and you knew there was one of these, the Holland Apex won’t put a serious sear on a steak. It simply doesn’t get hot enough to do that kind of cooking. It will do lots of other kinds of cooking, but high-temperature grilling isn’t one of them. If this is important to you, you probably want a different grill.
