South Carolina Style Mustard BBQ Sauce
Mustard barbecue sauces originated in South Carolina and subsequently extended to Georgia. This fantastic sauce is served up on pulled pork and paired with slaw. Give this one a try the next time you have pulled pork sandwiches on the menu.
Servings: 2 Cups
- 1 cup yellow mustard
- 1/3 cup cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon mild chili powder
- 1-2 dashes of hot sauce
- pinch of salt
- In a medium saucepan, simmer mustard, vinegar, and apple juice over medium heat. Add black pepper, hot sauce, chili powder, and salt. Simmer on low for 3 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Remove sauce from heat and stir in butter to silken the sauce. Let cool for 10 minutes before using. Serve as a table sauce.
- Store unused sauce in an air tight container or jar in the refrigerator for 5-7 days after preparation.
