How to make steak frites

  • Cook your french fries in the oven according to package directions. If using an air fryer, set to 425 degrees F, place french fries in the fryer basket along with olive oil and salt (optional), and cook for 20-25 minutes. Shake them halfway through for even cooking.
  • Combine fajita seasoning mix according to recipe instructions.
  • While fries are cooking, preheat your grill or Blackstone griddle to high heat. Oil the grates or griddle surface with 1 tablespoon oil.
  • Brush both New York strip steaks with the remaining 1/2 tablespoon oil and season them with fajita spice mixture. Add a little more salt if desired.
  • Place the steaks on the hot grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side or once it reaches your desired doneness. It’s always a good idea to keep a reliable meat thermometer to pull them at the right time.
  • Remove the steaks from the grill, place them onto a clean cutting board, and let them rest for 5 minutes.

  • If you have an air fryer, start the fries 15 minutes before the steaks go on, and both will be cooked at the same rate.
  • This recipe makes enough for 4 people. Keep in mind that this is meant to be a meal. If you are serving other food items, you can extend the servings to 6-7 people.
  • Substitute NY strips with any cut of steak like: rib eye, filet mignon, flat iron, flank steak, or sirloin steak.
  • Use sweet potato fries or waffle fries to mix it up a little!
  • Pair this dish with your favorite beer, frozen cocktail, or red wine.
  • For vegetarian diets, substitute beef with 2-3 large portabella mushrooms instead of steaks.
  • Don’t own a grill? No problem! You can cook your steaks in a cast iron skillet or non-stick pan on the stovetop, or place them onto a baking sheet and cook them in the oven.
  • If you’re looking for a simple seasoning, try a combination of kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
