Year after year, the Thanksgiving table is filled with the same old turkey and all the trimmings. Of course, the one of most memorable side dishes, besides mashed potatoes, is the marshmallow sweet potato casserole. Our smoked candied sweet potatoes take this traditional holiday staple to a whole new level. The sweet potatoes are smoked then topped with marshmallows and a delicious butter spice mixture. The hint of smoke sets this dish apart from its predecessor! Even better, they are the perfect individual portion! The key is finding the right sweet potato, and we recommend using either jewel or garnet varieties for this recipe.

How long do you smoked a sweet potato?

That depends entirely on you cooking equipment. Typically, it takes about 2 1/2 hours at 225 degrees F, or 1 – 1 1/2 hours at 275 degrees F.

What temp should sweet potato be cooked to?

Cook your sweet potatoes to an internal temperature between 205-210 degrees F. They will be perfectly tender and easy to work with.

      Candied Sweet Potato Recipe Variations

      • Sweet and Spicy: Add a pinch or two of cayenne or chipotle pepper to the butter mixture for a thrilling Tex-Mex candied sweet potato with a spicy kick.
      • Maple: Use real maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a hint of caramel flavor. Maple compliments the natural flavor of the sweet potatoes and will not overpower the toasted marshmallows.
      • Boozy Bourbon: Add a few teaspoons to the cinnamon butter for a boozy holiday variation.
      • Citrus Infused: Add fresh grated orange zest to the butter mixture for a candied sweet potato with a citrusy twist.
      • Pecan Topping: For an easy way to add texture and crunch, simply top the butter mixture with chopped toasted pecans, then place the marshmallows on top. Set to broil, and voila! A delicious side dish is ready to impress!
      • Savory Bacon: If you love sweet and savory side dishes, then top these smoked candied sweet potatoes with chopped cooked bacon.
