Bill Best, the founder of TEC (aka Thermal Engineering Corporation) is the inventor of modern Infrared Technology. That is not a boast. From paint drying equipment to space heaters to infrared gas grills, he has at least a finger in it all. The TEC line of gas grills uses an ultra-efficient design that converts 99% of the heat energy of a gas burner into infrared. The TEC Sterling FR is quite possibly the most technologically advanced gas grill on the market.
So why buy this grill? Why buy an infrared grill at all? Well, this is a big question and not an easy one. What this grill can do is generate incredible temperatures. We are talking up to 900 degrees F. This is searing power that even charcoal will struggle to achieve. At the same time, the TEC Sterling can hold temperatures as low as 200 degrees F. That is a 700-degree variation in cooking temperatures. For raw power, this gas grill simply can not be beaten.
On the other hand, this model has nearly 600 square inches of primary grilling space and yet only two burners. There is no rotisserie system and little else in the way of features. As a steak cooking machine, there really isn’t anything better. As a general gas grill, well that is something you have to debate for yourself. It is okay, but there are other grills that offer more. And considering a price tag of over $5,000USD this grill is a serious investment.
The Bottom Line
But don’t get me wrong. This is a great grill. It is one of the best you can buy. However, it isn’t like other grills. If you are ready to mount the learning curve and do some serious grilling, then go ahead. It is a fun grill to cook on and if you are looking for power, then look no further. You really won’t find it.
This model is also available in the TEC Sterling Stainless Steel Island.
