Chris Marks and his Three Little Pigs barbecue team are among the top teams in competition barbecue (they are eight-time grand champions of the American Royal BBQ Competition). The Good One Open Range smoker is the smallest version of the smoker Chris takes to competitions. What makes this smoker different from others is the precision of airflow control. The Good One Smoker uses rotating vents called spinners that can be adjusted with a very fine degree of control.

Recently, this smoker line has changed manufacturers (with Chris Marks still attached). There have been several improvements, including higher-quality powder coating for better durability and appearance. The slide-out ash pan has been replaced with a drop-in design to reduce the external openings and improve the airflow even more.

The Good One Open Range- Construction Quality

With many heavy steel smokers, you get a great deal of smoke and leakage around the doors and connections. The Good One Open Range fits together with incredible accuracy, so the air flows through the vents and not through the doors. Add to that the precision of the vents, which can shut this smoker down, extinguish the fire, and preserve the remaining charcoal for the next cook.

Although the nearly $1,500 price tag makes this an expensive smoker, its durable construction, excellent cooking abilities, and efficient design make it a perfect smoker for the serious backyard cook. The Good One Open Range is more than just a great smoker; it is amazingly versatile. You can use the firebox area for direct grilling or the smoking chamber for roasting or baking. It is one cooker that can do it all.
